India will celebrate its 73rd Independence Day on 15th August, 2019. Though India unofficially got its independence on July 18, 1947, however, 15 August was officially decided because of Lord Mountbatten. He chose this day because this day was also recognized as the second anniversary of Japan’s surrender to the Allied Forces in World War II.
India is a huge country and only "Khadi Development and Village Industries Commission" holds the right to manufacture the Indian flag and allocates it to any regional groups. The "Karnataka Khadi Gramodyog Samyukta Sangha" in Dharwad is the one and only licensed Indian flag maker. By law, the only material to be used for making flag is ‘khadi’. Flying a flag made of any other material is punishable under law with three years imprisonment and a fine.
August 15 is celebrated as Independence Day in not only India but also in five other countries – Bahrain, North Korea, South Korea, Liechtenstein and Republic of Congo.
