Worst Locust attack in 27 years: Swarms of locusts entered India from Pakistan and had destroyed crops in several states of India.
State continues its fight against Covid-19, the locust attack comes as an new challenge. The insects have ability to damage large portions of crops.
For the first time since the early 1990s, large swarms of the locusts were seen making their way into Jaipur from Western Rajasthan. The swarm, which originated in North-West Pakistan and after passed through Barmer and Jaisalmer districts, arrived in Jaipur through Nagaur and Sikar, confounding the fears of residents.
Locusts normally affect districts in western Rajasthan but this time the swarms have travelled as far as Jaipur city.
While the state government has assigned many teams in order to control the attack by insects, the incident has left people worried; many people choose social media to express their views and concern.
The locusts are seen in Rajasthan is known as 'Desert locusts' which is considered as a most destructive migratory pest in the world. The threat level is primarily high for the farmers, since their livelihood is directly under attack from these swarms of locusts.
This was just one swarm; there are at least 3-4 more groups. They move with the direction of the wind and so are most likely to arrive in Jaipur in the coming weeks.

...Manav, I've heard about the locust in Africa and Asia, these images are amazing! Several states in the US are having infestations of 17-year cicadas which live for 17 years and the emerge. this takes on a Biblical proportion.

Oh my goodness, I hope they didn't do much damage. These are great captures, but at the same time, it's disheartening because I know how much damage these locusts can do to crops.
