Ghoomar Dance of Haryana

Ghoomar is a traditional folk dance of Haryana, India. It is performed by women during auspicious occasions such as weddings, festivals, and religious gatherings. The dance is characterized by its graceful movements, swirling skirts, and vibrant colors.

Ghoomar dancers typically wear flowing ghagharas (skirts), choli (blouses), and dupattas (scarves). The ghagharas are often decorated with mirrors, sequins, and embroidery. The dancers also wear traditional jewelry, such as necklaces, earrings, and bangles.

The Ghoomar dance is typically performed to the accompaniment of traditional Haryanvi folk music. The music is played on a variety of instruments, including the dhol (drum), the jhaal (cymbals), and the shehnai (oboe).

The Ghoomar dance is believed to have originated with the Bhil tribe of Rajasthan. The Bhil people used to perform the dance to worship Goddess Saraswati, the Hindu goddess of knowledge and learning. Over time, the dance was adopted by other communities in Haryana and became a popular folk dance form in the state.

The Ghoomar dance is a symbol of celebration and joy. It is also a way for women to express their cultural identity and pride. The dance is often performed at weddings as a way to welcome the new bride to her new home. It is also performed at festivals such as Holi and Diwali.
